What “Ko”, is it company as in co. ?

It’s been long since i was able to whole heartedly enjoy and like a film, especially a Tamil one. I have lost all hope of seeing a quality movie in Tamil in recent times due to the Xeroxed versions stories and loud rapacious and tasteless music. And it’s with a loud sigh of relief i am glad to tell that the wait and hiatus is well worth it. The movie “Ko” was enjoyable in the sense there was a very good plot and the movie kept the suspense alive till the last minute. And it was a relief to see a modern guy who uses technology and brains in an intelligent manner and almost believable.  The film didn’t have much of loopholes. Jeeva has evolved so much as an actor, his portrayal of the character of Ashwin is a benchmark for his future performances. Piaa was nice and out of lip-sync. Karthika, the new girl with wide eyes and apt acting is good, she may be a face to watch out in future, she do resembles her mother in certain angles. The songs are a terrible distraction. Ajmal in yet another author backed performance is very convincing as the young gun politician. The only thing that kept nagging me was the motive or lack of it behind his actions which were not convincing. Altogether it was a good movie, do watch it.

10 Must Watch Romantic Movies of all time.( and some more)

It’s done to death, but one never gets enough. The romantic movies (with a little comedy or drama thrown in for good) are the most entertaining.

“Qualification of a any good movie should lift up your spirits and make you dream about it for at least a day and want to search your collection in a frenzy to see it or see it.” Really, nothing else works.

Now the list.

10 things i hate about you.
“cruel to be kind, in the right measure”.................
“i don’t care about my damn reputation”............
“i love u baby...”........................

This is a MOVIE.  I have watched it so many times i lost count, amazing performances, a great cast and absolutely wonderful. It kind of grows on you. Heath Ledger and Julia Stiles are perfect as the shrew and the tamer. But what makes this high school version of the Shakespearean play most successful is the wonderful supporting cast. All on the spot, the teachers (the English teacher, the counsellor, GOD! .. bratwurst, tumescent, quivering member!!!!  “Hilarious”). The father of the girls, the intelligent friend of Cameroon, everybody fit to the ‘T’. Must watch! Never disappoints.

I feel nostalgic too, Heath Ledger, may God bless his soul!

       While You were Sleeping.
This one is an endearing one, were there are more humane characters. A normal looking woman who has a crush of a seemingly perfect guy (with secrets, surgical ones of course) and a brother who knows he has found a perfect partner for him, who cannot be his. And yes they get together, family helps too instead of usually playing spoilsport.

One of the best movies of  Sandra Bullock.

     She’s the Man
One movie where i cant remember the real names of a single person cast, but one that could be watched again and again. Sheer entertainment:  the source being one of the most enjoyable plays of the bard for the ‘Twelfth Night’ after the Tragic R & J helps too.

Girl disguising herself as her twin brother to play football and winning the heart of hottie Orsino, well its a yard well spun. Set in high school too!!! Here too all the characters including Malvolio (the pet tarantulla) are perfect. Nice adaptation.

     The mirror has two faces
The talented Barbara Streisand in this movie simply steals your heart. A middle aged woman whose heart still yearns for true romance and love, who gets it but not gets it when a dashing Maths professor (Ahhhh... Jeff Bridges!) marries her for maintaining a ‘platonic companionship’ as he calls it. And yes she does win his heart, the Climax with music flowing out of an unanimous window in the middle of a street ‘tout romantique’.

       Say Anything
The scene of John Cusack carrying that music box blasting  and in love! unforgettable. The awkward almost loser falling in love with the good girl is a movie to watch and watch again. Never bores one.

       Moon struck
After watching the movie one will really feel that beauty is not everything, a man minus one hand, a lady far from beautiful, completely opposite personalities and what not. And yes they are moonstruck and you are too watching this magic. And all the while this seemingly odd situation never strikes as odd.
Never been a fan of either of the lead actors ( Nicholas Cage and Cher) but u ought to like them in this one.

       Flipped
Most ordinary sounding story told in a simple way, but with intelligence. Girl falls for Guy when 7 years old and boy falls back when 13. In the meantime they really learn about each other their major flaws their goodness, their families and their TRUE love. This always, always leaves me with a smile and a little tear....When Bryan Loski  is standing as the basket boy number 9 and wondering why his Julie is not bidding for him, you know the guy has definitely ‘flipped’ even before he says it.

       Sweet Home Alabama
Guilty pleasures abound in this movie. Most romantic scene, not when the perfect guy proposes at Tiffany, but when the little boy says “ so that i could kiss you whenever i want” to the question on why he wants to marry the girl. And when the guy grows up to be Josh Lucas, one kind of wonders why this has to as it is.. Well all end well. Reese  appears very convincing even in a stupid role as this one.
The Soundtrack also features one of the most loved songs. I am still learning to play it perfectly in my guitar.
       Anastasia
Most  would not consider this movie romantic in lieu of Bergman’s other famous movie ‘Casablanca’.  But this story of the lost Princess of Russia, finding the true thing she really wanted to find- Her IDENTITY and even leaving it for TRUE LOVE is as beautiful as it gets. And the smoking chemistry between Bergman and  Yul Brynner. So much of latent feelings in their close encounters.

     As Good As it Gets
I don’t know if this could be classified as romantic, but it is. Who will fall for a freak like Jack Nicholson? You think, but this great actor convinces Helen Hunt and you get it too. Its a great story too.. Great watch !

There are others too...
 ·         Love with a proper stranger  (what could be more romantic?)
·         A walk in the Clouds ( a winner!)
·         A lot like love (not actually)
·         Titanic (no i wasn’t going to lay of the list, buts it’s an tragic romance...)
·         Sabrina (1953 Bogart – Hepburn version)
·         Forrest Gump (unrelenting innocent and beautiful love)
·         Strictly Ballroom (will surprise you)
·         You’ve got mail (there is something about Meg and Hanks)
·         The Awful Truth (a perfect pair)
·         West Side story (lovely songs)
·         Sense and Sensibility (deep)
·         Four weddings and a Funeral  (fun!)
·         When Harry met Sally (intelligent)
·         The Quietman (John Wayne never looked so Handsome)
·         A walk in the Park (Fonda and Redford made amazing pair)
·         Must Love Dogs (very funny)
·         Sleepless in Seattle (romance for the romantic)
·         A walk to remember (made me cry)
·         Two Weeks notice (light hearted romance)
·         A little Romance (so so sweet)

Redeemed!!

This is another movie i had reservations about watching, lack of any romantic subplot was another reason. And Tim Robbins of 'Bull Durham' another factor, but i was wonderfully wronged and enjoyed this gem of the movie.
Must Watch
The movie has its flaws, extraordinary circumstances, chances and such, But, You kind of feel that you have won when you see the lead character outwitting others. Truth or Fiction, this is one glorious imagination.
ANDY is one witty guy who i will not forget for a long long time.
If life is about HOPE, nothing better to reassert it for yourself than watching such movies.
One strong reason i have for naysayers of Cinema.

The Joy of having a supporting family!!

I Met the Family!
I didn't want to watch this movie "Meet the Robinsons", somehow the image of "Meet the Parents" or "Meet the Fockers" flashed in my mind whenever i heard the title. The other day i was watching "The season of the With", really Bad! Good story gone awry or bad screenplay, at the beginning i thought it will be about these ancient myths and medieval books but ended like a vampire movie .

So to cheer up i decided to watch a stupid comedy, instead ended up watching this really good one. The characterizations are cute and lovely. You kinda know what to expect, but whats the loss? So watchable. Disney's still reminds us of innocence and the importance of retaining it!
WOW..

The Pitfalls of Social Life..The Social Network

A really good movie, the showed the complexity, frailty, jealousy, anger and such varied human emotions in a subtle and almost real manner. I liked seeing this adaptation of the story of the youngest billionaire of the world.
Only one miss, a little more details would have been nice...Dont Miss This movie!!

The Mughal Samrajya

Trust me to always do the reverse, in this case reading a series in reverse. I saw the book "Empire of Moghul- Brothers at war", at a book store and liked the gist given at the cover. The hardback book about the least talked about Moghul Humayun piqued my interest from the beginning and  Alex Rutherford had spun a historical yarn which was somehow more humanistic and believable.

And when i recently visited Humayun's tomb i felt something like what people call "deja Vu".

Then i had to read the prequel, but woe betide, i searched and searched and had lost hope. And then flipkart came to my rescue. The first book in the series "Raiders from the North" is a novel full of information and sorrow and triumph.

Now, eagerly awaiting the next book, hope it will be refreshing tale of Akbar - The Great.

Blasphemy..

I am becoming a non-believer in fiction !!!

I have taken a temporary wow not to read them because i am really fed up. Nothing new in the horizon and hence i am turning to reality or so called versions of reality. Currently reading Marx!!
